RANGE RULES AND REGULATIONS
We Strive to maintain a Safe, orderly and efficient Range operation, in so doing we ask that all participants strictly adhere to the range rules that have been established to protect our members, guests and facilities.
The Ukiah Rifle and Pistol Club in affiliation with the National Rifle Association (N.R.A.) requires that all members read and retain a copy of the Rules and Regulations document for future reference. Please read this document often. Once you receive your membership card it is very important that you are aware of the following;
Please know and understand UGC & NRA rules in (firearm) safeties that govern the Ukiah Gun Club as a whole.
Please be sure that your guests understand and comply with the same rules in firearms safety. “Your guest is your responsibility”.
Please keep a watchful eye on your family members and/or guests especially when handling firearms. Your helpful participation in the safety of “your club” is what makes UGC a truly unique, “one of a kind”, organization.
AUTOMATIC FRONT GATE: Please DO NOT FORCE the gate in any manner as it will result in an expensive repair for the club.
THE SIGN-IN KIOSK: Members must sign in on each visit to the range, Please print any and all info.. name, date, membership I.D. number (your membership I.D. number is located on the face of your UGC membership card). If you have invited a guest to accompany you in your visit, please enter their name on the sign-in sheet under “guest”. And indicate the range you will be using.., example, T = Trap, H.P. = High Power or Rifle. H.D. = Helldorado (or Pistol) etc.
GUESTS: The “Guest Rule” is as follows:: Money is to be placed in an envelope provided for you at the sign-in kiosk. Fill out the information needed on the envelope, Write your name, your guest (first & last) name, your membership I.D. number, the date, and place $5 into envelope. Then please seal envelope and place into the (green) iron ranger located to the right of the sign-in kiosk. Only two (2) guests may accompany a member for each visit. Please adhere to this rule and if you have any questions you are encouraged to contact any one of the Board of Directors, or Caretaker Mr. Bill Bays. Contact phone numbers are in your monthly UGC Newsletter. *See section D (below) for explanation of associate member.
**Note** Change in "guest rules". UGC members can bring up to 2 guests each range visit. Charge for each guest will now be set at $5.00 per visit per guest. Each guest is allowed 4 visits per year. This is not a strict money-making deal. Rather, it is intended to introduce people interested in the shooting world to our UGC ranges and hopefully get them interested enough to join our UGC.
The Ukiah Gun Club is a fully membership maintained organization. Your club is dependent on a high membership count and your involvement in recruiting new members is what keeps UGC on the map and insures that you and your family will have a safe, well maintained facility for firearms education, training, and camaraderie for generations yet to come. Please do not abuse the “Guest Rule”. Please be respectful to the membership of UGC as a whole, and to your membership as well. “Thank you for your cooperation”.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERS: Your spouse and children "living at your home” are considered “Associate Members” specifically where the guest fee is concerned. Your immediate family (again, “living at your home” may use the range and facilities “FREE” and as often as you like however only while (you) the card holding member is present, there are NO exceptions. Please DO NOT loan your UGC membership card to ANY family member's. You must accompany your associate member on the range, at all times”. If anyone in your family, over age 18, would like to make use of the club grounds alone, they must join respective. Please be sure to sign-in your associate member's in at kiosk as “associate member”, their name's etc.
CLUBHOUSE: Members are provided with the combination to the clubhouse, primarily for access to lavatory facilities. Members may also use tables, chairs, etc. in place, while at range. Members may use the telephone for local calls and emergencies. No long distance, and/or toll calls are authorized. Misuse of the telephone or any facility will subject the member to disciplinary action. Please be sure to turn off light, etc. and lock the door when leaving. And “put stuff back where you got it, ok?” Much appreciated. F.
THE GOLDEN RULE:
DO NOT – UNDER ANY CONDITIONS, BRING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES TO THE RANGE!!! PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP AT THE RANGE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR ANY OTHER SUBSTANCE. IF YOUR GUEST BREAKS THIS LAW, “IT IS AS IF YOUR GUEST IS
YOU AND YOU ARE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF YOUR GUESTS, AND/OR FAMILY MEMBERS”. “ANY VIOLATION OF ALL THE ABOVE IS CAUSE FOR IMMEDIATE TERMINATION OF YOUR MEMBERSHIP, AND THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS”.
Additional safety rules to always keep in mind:
Eye and ear protection required when using firearms at UGC, at all times.
Ear protection required when at firing line and/or shooting bench area at all times.
Keep doors of high power range closed to reduce noise reflected towards our neighbors to the south.
No .50 caliber BMG rifles allowed.
No armor piercing bullets allowed.
No rapid fire, machine gun like sound, on any range. Rapid weapon fire creates problems with our neighbors.
There is NO hunting on club property. Ukiah Gun Club is a safe bird & animal zone.
You may not shoot
at hard targets (metal etc.) closer than 100 yards (ricochet
hazard) except for .22 rimfire at 25yds.
Do not shoot at targets that break or cause litter (glass, cans, foreign objects etc) clay-trap birds are the only exception.
Do not shoot at target frames. They (target frames) take hits, but please do not aim at them, “costs money”.
Please clean up your shooting area and dispose of trash in trash receptacles provided at each range. Please clean up behind others not so courteous, “your effort has its just reward”. Please report any violations.
Please remove paper targets when finished (wind tends to blow them all over the area).
Very important: “DO NOT leave children unattended”. Need we say more on this?
The Helldorado or “Cowboy Action Range” Absolutely no shotgun slugs or 00-Buck ammo allowed on Helldorado. This new pistol range is restricted to the use of handguns and/or rifles firing lead bullets ONLY with a muzzle velocity no greater than 1600 fps. However, jacketed bullets may be used in handguns only, and ONLY when firing at paper targets mounted on wood back stand. DO NOT USE JACKETED BULLETS AT THE HELLDORADO RANGE WHEN FIRING AT ANY METAL PLATE (GONG TYPE) TARGETS, “STEEL PLATE TARGETS ARE FOR LEAD BULLETS ONLY!” NO EXCEPTIONS.
HIGH POWER RANGE; RE: “GOING DOWN RANGE” and “DOWN RANGE SIGNS”. There are two (2) signs at the center of the range, next to the wood burning stove, which are visible to both sides of the range when down. And there are also flashing red strobe lights,
the on/off switch is located on the center post firing line. When you arrive at the range, you must observe these signs and lights
to see if they are displayed. If the signs are down and lights are flashing, THE RANGE IS CLOSED, CEASE FIRE IS IN EFFECT AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO HANDLING OF ANY FIREARMS WHAT-SO-EVER! Once the firing range is clear (of people checking targets
etc.), and the down range signs are cleared, the flashing strobe lights are off and “RANGE IS HOT!” is called out, it is
then and only then that you may unpack and handle your firearms and set up your bench. Keep in mind that if you are down range checking your targets, you DO NOT want to look back and see someone who just arrived handling their firearms. “Think about it”. This safety rule goes beyond courtesy; “it just makes sense, plain and simple”.
DOWN RANGE COURTESY: Most members who are working on a gun and desire to check targets often (as much as every shot) usually try to use the range on an off day when they are by themselves. Conflicts may occur when precision shooters and plinkers use the range at the same time. Please talk to each other and try to reach a viable accommodation. The rule however is as follows: The rule is that the cease fire rule is in effect every time someone wants to go down range. And there is absolutely NO EXCEPTION to this rule.
ELEVATION AND CROSS RANGE: DO NOT place
paper targets higher than the contour where the 100 yard target is located
and do not go up the hill past that point. There are steel
targets out to 400yds but due to the location of the pistol
ranges DO NOT go up the hills past 100yds. Cross range firing is absolutely forbidden. These rules are NOT meant to be broken, and violators of these rules will be dealt with. You have been warned!
CARETAKER: In the absence of a board member, “THE CARETAKER IS IN CHARGE”. If the caretaker asks you to do something, or if he asks you NOT to do something, please cooperate. If you ignore, or resist the guidance or instruction of the caretaker you will be subject to UGC Board of Directors disciplinary action, “RIGHT OR WRONG” if you disagree with the caretaker, you must please, first and foremost cooperate with his decisions. And discuss your concerns with the Board of Directors at a later date and time.
The Ukiah Gun Club is 100% membership maintained and your efforts are much appreciated by all. We do so very much appreciate any and all your efforts in making UGC the cleanest, safest and most affordable Gun Club this side of the Pecos.
Please retain and read these rules and regulations of safety and courtesy as often as needed. Your cooperation in these instructions will insure that each time you visit The Ukiah Rifle and Pistol Club, all members along with their guests and family will have a safe, enjoyable and memorable visit. The Ukiah Gun Club is truly a unique “one of a kind” organization. Since 1945 the Ukiah Rifle and Pistol Club has been a Local American Tradition based on family, fun and friends..,
“Thank you, have fun and please always think safety first”.
